Hey Phil, awesome that you would spend the time commenting on my review, but I have to say, of all the things you could have knocked me down for, this one seems a bit irrelavent to the story at-large.

If you were an expert who had recently documented both features at both golf courses, I might be inclined to agree with you, but since you said the 'chasm' was in front of the 8th green at Old Mac I have my doubts. The 'chasm' is in the middle of the 8th green, not the front.

Reidwegs,

Great story on Bandon Dunes. Wonderful golf course and yes walking in the sand can certainly make ones legs feel it at the end of the course. Many things to enjoy in that area but most importantly is the relaxation of the slower pace of life that the southern Oregon coast offers.

If you, or your readers, decide to travel further along The People's Coast we, as the regional destination marketing organization, would be happy to supply you with additional information. Please feel free to contact us or check out our website at www.VisitTheOregonCoast.com.
Enjoy your day,

Mr. Claw, thank you for this great comment. I too would rather take my wife to Sea Island than Bandon Dunes. While I think she would like Bandon, Sea Island more matches her style in that it's not all about golf.

In terms of the walking at Bandon Dunes, it is tough. We pushed our carts around all four golf courses, 36- holes per day, and it took a toll on our feet . Despite wearing Ecco's, which are the most comfy shoe available, my feet got taxed. After the first 36-holes I had blisters on both feet. But then, I had a cure. The ocean. We drove north out of the resort for 1/2 mile to Seven Devils State Recreation Park, where you can park next to the beach, and soaked our hands and feet in the healing waters of the Pacific. By dinner, and after a few cocktails, our feet were fine.

We simply repeated that routine the next evening and kept our driving distance consistent. Our mental game, however, slipped on the 3rd day.

Reidweg - Your comments on Bandon are spot on (<<<does that sound British?).

Having just returned there from a couples trip to Bandon Dunes Resort, I would like to comment on the male buddies trip theme. As a recent guest of Golf Digest to Pinehurst as one of the top Buddies Trip planners in the country, I know about buddies trips!

Golf, golf, drinking, and more golf is a great way to spend time at Bandon. However, with couples it is golf, and then leisure activities. Still, this can be quite the fun Oregon trip, if you surround it with a trip to wine country (Willamette Valley) or Crater Lake, Mt. Hood, etc.

For buddies trips one thing I learned from my caddie was this: after playing 36 holes a day for three straight days (as most golfers do), he saw from experience nearly EVERYONE loses about 15 yards of distance off their shots by the third day at that pace. It might be wiser to break it up on the middle day and only play 18, hit Shorty's, or just practice your short game at the practice center. This way frustration doesn't set in and dampen your impressions of this wonderful resort.

As an example of what you are in for check out this link which tracks my stroll on Bandon Dunes:

http://gpsed.com/track/5759297010640428544

As you can see, the Dunes course alone is over 8 miles of walking (& striking the ball repeatedly!) Remember there are no carts at Bandon. When you climb the dunes and look for your buddy's Titleist the soft sand can make the trek seem even longer.

If you are interested in my impressions from a couples viewpoint, read my blog @ http://clawgolf.wordpress.com
